MenuExtra SSBs Preview
Check out the screencast below to see a preview of a cool new feature I’m working on for the next version of Fluid: MenuExtra SSBs.
Note that unlike in the screencast, this feature will be totally *optional* in the released version.

Wow, it’s too bad that the menu bar of my Macbook is already overcrowded (damn you iStat menus!). Great feature though, perhaps I’ll be able to make room for a few.

That’s so nice, Todd!
Any chance of having access to early nightlies?

Again sorry for the double post, but I just thought that I would be really cool if you could add a black & white filter for the menu bar icons, as an option. That’s a suggestion, and I really don’t know if it’s possible. But afterall, you’re a man of many resources, so… Keep up the really good work anyway !

@Jérôme: Since you choose the icon yourself, couldn’t you just make a greyscale one?

I guess it’s a matter of aesthetics : maybe we want both the fluid instance to be in the menu bar and in the dock.
But that would do the trick for just the menu bar, I admit

New market for 24px (?) black and white menu bar icons?

Was that Take 5 playing in the background? Nice choice!

This will be awesome if the application hides when clicking on the icon (cmd + h).

Pandora works great as a MenuExtra SSB. Just be sure to use its mini player: http://www.pandora.com/?cmd=mini.
Now its perfect! I can listen to music, and have it a click away from changing the channel. Great addition!

Unfortunately, I turned on Menu Extra SSB on my Gmail instance, and I can’t launch it anymore : it does not even bounce in the dock, nor does it have an arrow…
(Ok, I just checked in my menu bar, and here it is. With no icon at all, though. Just a bunch of transparent pixels. I can’t change its prefrences anymore (no menu) nor can I quit it the usual way.)
I changed back the MenuExtraSSB to ‘no’ in the preferences.plist, then force quit Gmail and all came back to default. System language is french, by the way. And the fluid instances I use were created back of the early days
Hope that helps resolving issue.

@Jérôme Verzieryea, i had the same problem as you, but i just clicked “command , ” and the preferences window came up and i was able to shut it off.
Maybe this is a processor architecture bug, Im using an powerbook G4, has anyone else had this problem?

[…] We’ve been teased for the past couple weeks about it but last night saw the anticipated release of Fluid 0.9.4 into the wild. Now I don’t know about you but I was really looking forward to this release for one single reason: menu extra hiding. […]

I have an Apple computer since one year and it’s really great! I love software solutions like this!
